On Wednesday 2nd June 2021, we kicked off a summer project with Southfield House Care Home in Spalding. At Parallel we are committed to giving back to our community any way we can, as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility agenda.
Southfield House offers residential and dementia care to its 31 residents. It has a large garden area to the rear of the home for the residents to enjoy, however it is in need of some fresh new plants and some handy work to give the residents somewhere to sit, relax and enjoy the weather. Especially when their families come to visit, sitting outside is always the preferred option.
On Wednesday 2nd June, we kicked off the project, building a wooden gazebo that the residents had purchased using money from previous fundraisers they carried out. The gazebo will offer them somewhere shaded to sit and talk with family and friends while enjoying a view of the rest of the garden.
The building team consisted of Simon Bell, Kristina Basaraba, Ben Cleghorn & Geoff White. All offering up different skills to the job! Kristina took charge of the instructions, ensuring we were getting things in the right place. Geoff provided majority of the tools required and the knowhow to use them. Between the four of us we tackled the task at hand with all we had.
Ben provided some much needed height to the operation for such a tall structure.
Overall the afternoon was a great success and was lots of fun. We have a number of afternoons planned throughout the summer to return to Southfield House and offer our services in any way we can to improve the garden for the residents.
